ABOUT THE ARTIST

Donna Marie Rowe started her ceramic career in 1967, when she began Hand building and Mold Ceramics in Durango, Colorado. She continued her studies in this area until 1974 when she started throwing on the wheel. Donna then began showing her pieces at Art Fairs throughout Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. Her talent grew quickly and the demand for her functional, artistic pieces finally called for a Main Avenue shop in 1980. Durango Pottery has been in business since then and continues to be well known in Colorado as well as the other states and various foreign countries.

Donna has also taught all levels of Ceramics at Durango High School and has most recently coauthored a ceramics textbook entitled, We Have This Treasure in Earthen Vessels. She continues to not only supply her shop with unique pieces but also gives lessons to interested people. Her expertise includes functional ware, sculpture, Raku, Pit -fired pottery and purely artistic pieces. She feels comfortable throwing in porcelain and does many pieces using porcelain and several stoneware clays.

Gordon was a wrestling coach for 13 years; he was a teacher and counselor  at Durango Senior High School for 26 years. As the business grew, he was busy loading and building kilns.
